EVENTS AT THE CENTER EDUCATIONAL DEPARTMENT IN NEW DRIVE
Pnina ShahamSince the beginning of the school year 2000/2001, the training and instruction department at the Babylonian Jewry Heritage Center has achieved record results; and today, the department's staff is working to publish a program and guidance booklet for the educational establishments.
The main change that took place during the current school year is an experience that the pupil acquires in the museum. Opening the kindergarten program with the cooperation of the social relief department of the Municipality of Or-Yehuda, the new program aims to encourage the pupil-visitor to play a more active role in the museum.
According to the program, the kindergarten children must visit the museum at least twice: during their first visit, they become acquainted with ceremonies and formal events of the Jewish Community in Iraq, including the enactment of a Jewish marriage ceremony in Baghdad; and in the second, they get to study the synagogue, its importance and the role it plays in the life of the Jewish people. The tours in the Center are conducted by the actress Noa Spector and include narratives and chosen acts from famous plays.
