THE CENTER PRESENTED A LECTURE BY CALCUTTA BORN RABBI
Rabbi Dr. Ezekiel Musleah in the Center
The Babylonian Jewry Heritage Center presented a lecture on June 24, 2007 by Rabbi Dr. Ezekiel Musleah, who was born in Calcutta. The event was organized and conducted by the Chairman of the Center, Mr. Mordechai Ben-Porat. The lecture was attended by prominent members of the Jewish community of Calcutta, now settled in Israel. Rabbi Musleah also donated books collected over five generations of his family, to the Center.
The lecture was chaired by the former Ambassador of Israel to India H.E. Zvi Gabay. The Ambassador of India was the chief guest, and he delivered a lecture on the Jews of Calcutta and their contribution. Mr. Salomon Twena, a prominent Calcutta Jewish person now settled in Israel, also spoke. The meeting concluded with an impromptu performance by a choir of members of the audience of Calcutta origin, including the national anthems of Israel and India.
