The annual function, where usually all the distinguished personalitiesof the Babylonian Jewish Communiy in Israel and abroad are invited, washeld this year in "Gan Oranim" Hall in Tel-Aviv with a successfulprogram.
The purpose of the function, apart from being an enjoyable event anda friendly meeting, is to raise funds for the various activities of the"Center" Development of the museum and rescarch projects in orderto document and preserve the heritage of the Community.
We were also honored this year with the presence of many Iraqi Jews,who hosd prominent positions in society, economics and culture in Israeland abroad. Among the guests were the Minister Ariel Sharon, Members ofKnesset, Moshe Shahal, Raanan Cohen, Avi Yehezket, the Mayor of Ramat-GanMr. Zvi Bar and the Mayor of Or-Yehuda Mr. Shabi Tamir.
The function was opeed with a reception and an exhibition of selectedphotographs from the mobile exhibition of the museum, titled "Sitesin Iraq", which includod new photographs on Iraq. The function washosted by Mr. Many Peer, who also concentrated upon conducting the donations,which was answered with generosity. Mr. Mordechai Ben-Porat, Chairman ofthe Center, opened the function and displayed the urgent needs of the Centerfor the inception of building the sccond floor of the museum and especiallythe need in preparing the deign and research of the new planned exhibitis.he summoned the participants to undertake and help this mission.
The main entertainment program was the Eli Yatspan and Meir Swisa Stan-upComedy Show. Among the esteemed donors were: Mr. Raymond Sale from London,Mr. Sami Shaoon who undertook all the expenses of the evening on himself,Mr. Ezra Dagmi, Mr. Yehuda Assia, Mr. Yaacov Nimrodi, Mr. Reubn Gabrieli,Mr. Said Mashiah and others.
The management of the Babylonian Jewry Heritage Center thanks all theparticipants and donors and to hope to see them again in the next year function.
