One of the biggest events this year was the establishment of our homepage on the internet. The positive response was beyond all our expectations.
Since the site went up on the net a few months ago, hundreds of visitors have been accessing our pages every week. Our homepage is listed on some of the most important search engines and on several Jewish related sites.
The decision to establish a site on the internet was made in order to reach as many people as possible, both in Israel and abroad.
We received loads of positive and encouraging electronic mail responses. There were also enquiries and suggestions for future activities on the net.
The mail came from as far as Vancouver (Canada) in the west to Taipei (Taiwan) in the East.
Some examples:
A message arrived from the niece of two former Jewish high school principals in Iraq.
There was an enquiry from the U.S. regarding Jewish architecture in Arab lands. We were asked for recommendations for reading material.
Another request for information came from Canada regarding the Kurdish Village of Sandor.
We received suggestions from someone whose family is active in the local Iraqi Jewish community in Canada.
A researcher from a university in the United Kingdom gave us valuable suggestions including one suggestion to put the scientific paper collections of the Center on the net.
A librarian from California enquired about the Center's newsletters.
We were even sent a recipe for Kubba Burgul!
Thank you all for your encouraging words and useful comments.
Currently, about one third of the visitors to our internet site originate in Israel and another third in the U.S. About three percent each originate in Canada, Japan, the United Kingdom, France and the Netherlands. The rest come from all over the world.
In addition to textual material, you can look at and download images from our site to your personal computer.
There are links from our site to other interesting sites on the internet and more links will be added with time.
Plans for the future:
1. We plan to add a guestbook so that visitors can leave us their details comments.
2. A list of publications for sale through the Center.
3. Recent issues of Nehardea.
4. A list of forthcoming events.
5. What's New.
6. The Museum - more pages will be added in the future.
7. The Research Institute - Recent publications, collections, planned seminars, and review of ongoing research,...
8. News from Iraqi Communities in the Diaspora.
Your comments/suggestions will be appreciated.
