The project of the "Babylonian Jewish Families"

We are working full-time order to develop the project on setting up an information system on the Iraqi Jewish population.

We have made fine progress in the following fields:

1. Purchase of the equipment for computerizing the "Iraqi Jewish Families" project

As the first stage in setting up this information system we purchased a network server with five computer stations, which will be connected with Novell Network. We also added suitable equipment for graphic work on photographs, certificates and other documents on the subject. This is a top-of-the-art paint jet printer that scans colors and uses high sensitivity paper. Most of the above is already in the Center in its last stages for operation.

2. Determination of the characterization for computerizing the "Families"

Together with the purchase of the required equipment, a preparatory survey was done by professional people to determine the required characterization for the "Iraqi Families" software, with the aim of using the data that we succeded in collecting on Iraqi Jewish families living in Israel from the 1930s to the mass immigration inclusive.

3. Choosing the company to carry out the "Families" project

We applied for offers from several high-tech companies to prepare special software enabling us to computerize all the data we have on Iraqi Jewish families that immigrated to Israel and to adapt them in a special data system, which provide us with a computerized system applicable to Jewish Babylonian families going back generations.

After an intensive check up, it was decided to sign a contract with Beligal Software Company for this project, and to start immediately.

This project is sponsored by A. A. Society, New York.
