A year-long course for teachers was conducted for the first time this year. It included a series of two-weekly lectures throughout academic 1995/6, given by lecturers and researchers, each in his specialty, on subjects concerning the history and culture of Babylonian Jewry. The curriculum was prepared by Prof. Yitzhak Avishur, and Mrs. Ruth Attar was the coordinator on behalf of the Center. The course was attended by 33 teachers from schools throughout Israel, but mostly in the central region. The scope of the course this year was 56 hours, and it included lectures and workshops on a variety of subjects: Study of literary works written by former Babylonian Jews, with the participation of, and directed by, the writers, lectures on writings in spiritual creation from Babylonia, the yearning for Zion and Zionist activity, singing and instrument playing, folklore, and leaders. A total of 28 lectures and workshops were given at 14 meetings. We are continuing with similar courses for teachers in academic 1996/7.
