The Babylonian Jewry Research Project |
|
An effort of broad proportions that has continued for more than 20 years
has resulted in the collection of tens of thousands of items and documents
pertaining to Babylonian community life throughout the generations. This
material has been sorted, prepared and stored in the approved manner and is
used by researchers for many research projects. As a result of this dozens
of bookshave been written about various periods and aspects of Babylonian
community life, for instance: economics, leadership and leaders, religion,
culture, folklore and so forth.
Today the amount of material is so great that the Babylonian Jewry Heritage
Center cannot exhibit all of it, not even in changing exhibits. Since the
news of this effort was spread by word of mouth, there has been no let up
in the amount of material that has continued to flow into the Center from
Israel and around the world.
In order to complete the construction of the second storey, to plan and
furnish it and to exhibit in a proper manner each subject, the Center is in
need of serious funding that we simply do not have. Therefore donations and
memorializations (within the framework of the memorialization of loved
ones) will be most gratefully received. This is all to serve the purpose of
preserving the heritage and the culture of Babylonian Jewry throughout the
generations. Despite this, we have succeeded in raising funds (though no
great amount) to provide needed computerization facilities and, of late,
for a site on the internet.
In the past couple of months the Center's internet site has undergone
renovation and revitalization including the latest equipment to enable
surfers better access. We have also incorporated the techniques to
integrate the latest developments and placed them at the disposal of
surfers in Israel and throughout the world.
For this too we are in need of funds and for your support - we thank you.
